Numotech Pioneers Pathways in Advanced Wound Care Industry

Numotech, Inc. is a premiere wound-care company headquartered in Northridge, CA. Numotech specializes in the research, design, manufacture and marketing of wound care treatment and prevention products for advanced-stage wounds.

Through the GIPP program, USIC member Numotech has collaborated with SPEKTR Conversion, a Russian spin-off company founded by former Soviet weapons scientists from the closed nuclear city of Snezhinsk (also called Chelyabinsk-70 or VNIITF). Numotech’s efforts, in partnership with Sandia National Laboratories, have led to the development of products for advanced wound care treatment and management, meeting a previously unmet industry need. These projects include:

Generic Total Contact Seat (“GTCS”)—A motorized, battery-powered wheelchair cushion that facilitates the healing of pressure ulcers that develop in individuals with limited mobility. It is the only seat approved as a Regulatory Class II medical device by the FDA, and the only one clinically verified to help heal pressure ulcers in the upright position. In 2001, the GTCS™ was selected by Popular Science magazine as one of its “Best of What’s New” awards.

Back Support System (“BSS”) —A complementary to the GTCS system, the BSS provides maximum comfort and reduced fatigue to wheelchair bound patients.

Oxygen Generator (“O2 Generator”)—A complementary product to the Numobag® Kit, it is a disposable, lightweight Topical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (THOT®) system to treat serious burns or wounds. The O2 Generator will create 99.7 percent pure oxygen from the atmosphere to replace flammable, heavy and bulky oxygen H-tanks. The O2 Generator opens new treatment opportunities for homecare applications of the Numobag® and treatment of chronic pulmonary disease. The technology is scalable to produce oxygen for large hospitals and large industrial users to compete favorably with the major oxygen suppliers.

Universal Leg—The world’s first low-cost, high-tech lower leg prosthesis. This product will be sold exclusively in developing countries to improve mobility and other quality of life factors for many people who would not otherwise have access to prosthetic devices. The targeted customer base will include governmental, humanitarian, and health care entities wishing to relieve the burden of third-world amputees.

The jointly owned American-Russian venture proposes to build, equip and operate a medical and specialty component manufacturing facility in the city of Kasli outside the closed administrative zone of Snezhinsk, but within reasonable range for transporting workers from Snezhinsk. The collaboration has experienced significant growing pains but, in 2006, obtained an historic $10 million loan commitment from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) to build a manufacturing facility in Russia to produce Numotech’s cutting-edge medical equipment.

In 2009 Numotech signed a distribution agreement with Qomel Company Limited, www.qomel.com ,a company within the Hadeem, www.hadeem.com umbrella organization headquartered in Ryahad , Saudi Arabia. Through this arrangement, Numotech and Qomel have significantly accelerated Numobag Kit sales throughout the Kingdom with to distribute Numotech products through the Gulf Cooperation Council. In addition, Numotech, Inc. was selected by the United States Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service (CS), to attend a Public Health Trade Mission to Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Doha.
