In May, USIC will release the first of its quarterly white papers “The Top Ten Dos and Don’ts of Technology Commercialization.” Written by Rob Collins, an Annapolis-based attorney focusing on technology law, the paper will offer an overview of safeguards companies can take and snares they might encounter as they tread down the path of technology commercialization.
“Technology Commercialization presents unique opportunities and challenges to early stage companies and established companies alike. If done properly, it can generate significant revenues for all parties involved and can create breakthrough technologies for society. However, if key considerations are ignored or avoided, otherwise promising technologies may never see the light of day. This White Paper serves as a roadmap to achieve the former and avoid the latter.”
Robert S. Collins, owner and founder of Collins Technology Law, LLC. Throughout his 15 years as a technology attorney, Collins has counseled early-stage companies as well as established technology companies on legal and business issues, helping them to navigate the complex path of corporate structuring and growth, technology commercialization, partnerships and alliances, and successful exits.
The paper will be released in PDF format in early May via email to all USIC members. A May 28, 2009 teleconference, hosted by Rob will give members a chance to ask questions and delve deeper into topics of interest. The conference will be held at 4 PM EST. (Call in # 800-791-2345, Code # 69447.)
According to USIC President, Gerson Sher, “USIC is committed to giving its members practical information and services that will help them develop innovative technologies and proceed into the world economic arena armed with the information they need to successfully market their products. We believe these white papers and phone conferences are one way we can accomplish this.”
USIC is seeking sponsors for future white papers. Call Susan Simmons at 703-526-9447, Ext. 305 if you would like information about sponsoring an upcoming issue of a USIC white paper.
